I had initially dual booted Ubuntu 16.04 with kali linux. Then One day while watching a movie in ubuntu 16.4 the speakers went mute. However, when using kali linux speakers worked just fine. I searched online for ways to fix sound in ubuntu 16.04 and the only helpful fix was to run alsctl restore
everytime I logged in ubuntu 16.04 . This always got the sound working. I then decided to replace kali linux with Ubuntu 18.04 and sound was gone too. I have to run alsactl restore
everytime I log in Ubuntu 18.0 to get the speakers to work too.
Here is the output of alsactl restore
Output
alsactl: state_lock:125: file /var/lib/alsa/asound.state lock error: File exists
alsactl: load_state:1683: Cannot open /var/lib/alsa/asound.state for reading: File exists
Found hardware: "HDA-Intel" "IDT 92HD81B1X5" "HDA:111d7605,103c166f,00100105 HDA:80862805,80860101,00100000" "0x103c" "0x166f"
Hardware is initialized using a generic method
How can I get my speakers working automatically when I log in ?
