Ubuntu 18.04 freezes when click Settings

I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a HP DC7900 (ATI Radeon RV370 X300 video card).
Previously 16.04 was installed, never problems.
Now with 18.04 the system freezes with high probability when I click "Settings" , sometimes it freezes randomly.
When I try to ping the system, there is no response, so the os seems to be dead (i.s.o. X driver).
There is no file in var/crash.
