Mic input really quiet, lots of negative voltage

I have an old MSI GX700. On the front there are three ports. Mic, aux, headphones, respectively. The headphone port works fine, but as soon as I try to use the mic or aux ports, the sound comes in really quiet, and there is a lot of negative voltage being recorded.

Do you have any ideas? The sound is still audible but that negative voltage is really aggravating.

I'm going to assume you didn't mean to link to an imgur post about Russian seduction and leave your post up. That was confusing. Is this a desktop or a laptop? Have you tried another microphone? Sounds like it might be a grounding issue.

  • Yeah, sorry. Firefox glitched and didn't actually upload the image, even though it said it did. I've tried dozens of microphones, all have the same issue.

  • @Nomkid Do you know if it works in windows? Or is Ubuntu the only operating system installed?

  • @Seth It was my Dad's old computer, which came with Windows Vista. But because he never gave me the password, I installed Ubuntu. I also don't actually have a Windows install disk, or any keys for anything other than Vista or XP that I'm not already using. I'd rather not buy a new key since I can just stick with linux for free (and experience the joy of Unity)
