In iOS based geofencing, on entry notification how to keep app alive for a longer duration?

My app uses geofencing to monitor entries.

As per my research, the app is opened in background by UIApplicationLaunchOptionsLocationKey option for 10 secs. If any task is being performed app is available for upto next 3 mins.

Between these 3 mins, OS has complete rights to send app to suspended state.

beginBackgroundTaskWithExpirationHandler does not work for me.

Is there any other way to keep app alive for next 5 mins once entry is notified?

  • You can't execute in the background for 5 minutes. You can execute for up to 3 minutes using beginBackgroundTask.
