How can I reenable screen power saving?
I am using Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with gdm and Gnome. Normally, I have things set so that the screen blanks after five minutes of inactivity and locks after five more minutes. But often lately, I find that the screen doesn't blank or lock at all after I've left the computer alone for much longer. I suspect one of the games I frequently play, or a Steam game wrapper, may be doing something to prevent the screen blank and not putting things back the way they were.
If I log out of the session manager and log back in, the behavior returns to normal. But after things are broken, changing the "Power > Power Saving > Blank screen" time in the Gnome control center doesn't fix it for the current session. I also read this Q&A and noticed my /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power/sleep-inactive-ac-type
was 'nothing'
, but changing it to 'blank'
had no effect during the current session either.
How can I investigate why or how the behavior was turned off, and is there a way to restore the normal screen blanking and locking behavior without restarting my session?
