Unable to log in to Ubuntu 16.04, no permission to view xsession-errors

1

My Ubuntu is stuck in a login loop when trying to enter my desktop. When I login, the screen gets black and soon after that the login screen comes back.

do not have permissions for cat ~/.xsession-errors or sudo cat ~/.xsession-errors

$ sudo cat ~/.xsession-errors
Xsession: X session started for root
localuser:root being added to access control list
openConnection: connect: no such file or directory cannot connect to brltty at :0

I have Ubuntu 16.04
16GB free space is available

I have tried a few things
But this is what happens (first few seconds of the video)

  • Have you tried the solution given in the video and the link given there. Give more details of your disks. Is it dual boot.

  • @vijay where would I get more detail about my disks? I tried the methods but nothing worked. I do not have enough space for GDM. I also cannot check the xsession errors because no such file or directory
