Focus and control another window without changing desktop / workspace

0

If $id is any window on another desktop:

wmctrl -ia "$id"
xvkbd -window "$id" -text "qr"

I want to send the "q" to the window, but without switching my desktop to that of the window or changing the window's desktop.

wmctrl -a Activate the window by switching to its desktop and raising it

wmctrl -R Move the window to the current desktop and activate it

These are the only two options. Can I control a window "from afar" without changing its or my desktop?

I think I'm looking for a GNOME equivalent to Xfce's "When a window raises itself: Do nothing" setting, but there's nothing similar in Tweaks or the GNOME Extension store.

Prevent gnome from changing the workspace on focus when using two or multiple monitors is a very similar question but doesn't provide a good answer.
