SDN requirements for carrier vs data center networks
I have recently started learning about networking and software-defined networks in particular. What I can't clearly understand is whether there are any differences in the requirements for carrier and data center networks. As I see, SDN-WANs are needed in both cases and they both use SDNs for an efficient and agile configuration management in addition to an ability to quickly optimize resources.
Could someone explain what are the differences in the requirements?

SDN is still a moving target that is not clearly defined. There are multiple, incompatible SDN architectures, some of which are proprietary. SDN is not used much in production networks. As SDN matures, it will find its way into more networks, but there is no clear winner at this time.
