Useing USB Ubuntu boot, can i configure packages in my Ubuntu installation?
After breaking up my Ubuntu packages, as explained here can't boot the system after fsck, libgtk problem, I managed to boot Ubuntu from USB and see my regular file structure. Are my attempts futile to try installations from safe environment to a broken or bugged part?

Not yet. The package manager on your USB will edit only the packages installed on your USB. Look up how to 'chroot' onto your disk, then you can handle those packages. However, it's generally faster and easier to use the LiveUSB to backup your data to a safe media, and then to do a clean-install.
