Saving data from a web application between multiple Mongo Collections (Node, Express, Mongo)
I'm attempting to build a basic fantasy football web application with Node, Express, and Mongo. I have three collections being used - User, Team, and Player. However, I've become quite stuck at how I can link all of my models together. Essentially I want to be able to have a user click a player and add it to his specific team which is then saved in Mongo for future use. I have posted some of my code below. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Currently, I am able to display players from my collection in a list on my HTML view with a button linked to the following route:
router.get('/select-player/:id', function(req,res,next){
var playerId = req.params.id;
user = req.user;
// Query to find the selected player
Player.findById(playerId, function (err, player){
if (err) {
// Improve- some type of alert
return res.redirect ('/');
}
// Add to Team Here
// redirect home after selection
res.redirect('/');
});
});
However, I then want to be able to save every selection to a User's Team. Which would be an array of Players.
Team Schema:
var mongoose = require('mongoose');
var Schema = mongoose.Schema;
var Player = require('./player');
var User = require('./user');
var schema = new Schema({
user: {type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: "User"},
team: [{type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: "Player"}]
});
module.exports = mongoose.model('Team', schema);
Player Schema:
var mongoose = require('mongoose');
var Schema = mongoose.Schema;
var schema = new Schema({
name: String,
position: String,
teamAbbr: String,
stats:{
"1": Number
},
seasonPts: Number,
seasonProjectedPts: Number,
weekPts: Number,
weekProjectedPts: Number,
});
module.exports = mongoose.model('Player', schema);
Alternatively, I have played with the idea of including a team field inside the User schema, which would be an array of Players and just removing the Team Schema.
// User Schema
var UserSchema = mongoose.Schema({
username: {
type: String,
index:true
},
password: {
type: String
},
email: {
type: String
},
name: {
type: String
},
});
var User = module.exports = mongoose.model('User', UserSchema);
node.js mongodb express mongoose
