File explorer get grouped into another icon

0

I'm finding that some application icons are getting collapsed into another application's icon on the dash: so far I've only found it with Visual Studio Code. If I open a file explorer window from within the application, it gets grouped in with the other VSCode windows (can Alt + ~ between them, etc.) even though it's Ubunutu's file explorer. If I try opening Files from the Activities menu instead, it still gets grouped in.

I haven't checked whether this behavior starts from startup, or only happens after opening from VSCode. Other applications seem to open on their own just fine (e.g. Ubuntu Software).

Running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

  • "Activities menu" suggests you are using GNOME instead of Unity. Note that GNOME is the default DE in Ubuntu 17.10 and later.
