ubuntu 16.04 LTS crashed

I installed Ubuntu in my Asus k42f laptop (Intel Pentium inside processor) it was working good for an year or more.
Then i kept it turned off for some time. Today when I turn on the laptop, I couldn't see the lock-screen wallpaper. When I load the home screen it just black. nothing is there. i tried restarting several times. but it doesn't show any content on the screen. it was black and blank.

  • Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! Can you run the live session on it? As the computer is not really new, I am suspecting a hardware issue.

  • I don't think so. I did the inspection. and all the components are working well.
