Symbolic Quaternion Multiplication

It is possible to do the symbolic multiplication $qq^*$ of a quaternion $q=a+bi+cj+dk$ by its conjugate $q^*=a-bi-cj-dk$ using Mathematica? It seems that Quaternion package only works with numeric entries.
