Set xHCI to Smarto auto

I've been trying all day to get this done, but it looks like there's no way of doing it.

I have a HDD that has USB 3.0. It is working, as it used to work with a laptop that is no longer working (bye bye Lenovo), but it is not recognized in my old laptop HP Pavillion dv5, which I am currently using. I really need to access the data that are in it, and only a small portion of it is being used: and I could really use some of its room right now.

This afternoon I tried to access it with Windows vista, but I cannot find the right driver for it. At some point I read that with Vista and Windows 7 it is ok to just set the xHCI to auto or Smart auto from BIOS; so I tried to access the BIOS, but apparently there is no way I can access the advanced options, for BIOS InsydeH2O Rev. 3.5 doesn't seem to allow it (or anyway it does not allow it to me, I tried typing Alt+F10 as some people claim to get it to work this way, but it doesn't).

So I thought... is there maybe a way that I can change this option from Ubuntu? I'm no expert on this matter, but if you could help that would be very much appreciated.
