Connect to another personal computer under different wifi

0

I establish a home LAN following the instruction [networking - Connect two computers with SSH in a home LAN - Ask Ubuntu] (Connect two computers with SSH in a home LAN) under the same wifi

Reach the second computer from the first

$ ssh algorithms@assistant.local
algorithms@assistant.local's password:
Welcome to Ubuntu 18.10 (GNU/Linux 4.18.0-13-generic x86_64)

algorithms@assistant:~
$ ls -F /
bin/ cdrom/ etc/ initrd.img@ lib/ lost+found/ mnt/ proc/ run/ snap/ swapfile tmp/ var/ vmlinuz.old@
boot/ dev/ home/ initrd.img.old@ lib64/ media/ opt/ root/ sbin/ srv/ sys/ usr/ vmlinuz@

It a miracle to have this happen.

Now I could try different distributions of Linux and manage them from a center control terminal.

The problem I encounter is that when switch to another wifi.

$ ssh algorithms@192.168.31.255
ssh: connect to host 192.168.31.255 port 22: Operation timed out

I think it amazing if could reach my computer at company office, then I have not to take it home every day.

  • The limitation is usually your WiFi hardware, which can connect to only a single network at a time. Ubuntu is easily capable of connecting to more than one network simultaneously. Try multiple WiFi dongles and you will see.
