How to use requests module to edit elasticsearch record in a docker instance?

I have a docker container, with an image of elasticsearch that I am calling to from python using the requests module.
I have managed to figure out how to "get" records from the database by querying with elasticsearch eg;
r = requests.post(url, json=json_query)
result = (r.json())
print(((result['hits'])['hits'])[0])
However, when I try to edit this data, it doesn't work. This is code I'm using;
new_result = result
(((result['hits'])['hits'])[0])['Name'] = 'Bob'
requests.post(url, data=new_data)
However, even though it runs it never commits to the database. So how do I permanently change this?
