MongoDB Schema Design - Dealing with variations for a single schema

0

Say I have a mongoDB Collection which holds books: Some books have chapters, so a book collection consists of multiple chapters (and each chapter holds some text); Now say that some books do have chapters, but inside their chapters there are then subchapters; So in this case the actual text is contained in the subchapters. Yet other books don't have chapters at all (some literature for example): Here there is just a whole lot of text;

How could I design a MongoDB Schema book which holds chapters + texts in some cases, but chapters & subchapters + texts in others and no chapters at all in yet other cases?

The only solution I came up with so far is to create multiple schemas:

Pseudocode:

Book with chapters:

{
chapters: [Chapter], //array of chapters
}

Chapter:

{
text: text, (as string)
}

and then for the Books with Subchapters:

Book with subchapters:

{
chapters: [ChapterWithSubChapters],
}

ChapterWithSubchapters:

{
subchapters: [subchapter]
}

Subchapter:

{
text: text, (as string)
}

.. but this looks not very flexible to me.

PS: Sorry if I am using wrong terms here as to schema, collection, - I am not entirely sure and fairly new to the subject, as you can probably tell from my question.
