How to enable composition in GNOME desktop?

0

I am new to Ubuntu/Linux, I was toying around with a few things here and there when I accidentally clicked on compton icon and now docky doesn't auto-hide, neither any other animations work.

Every time I click on compton it gives me a message reading

Docky needs composition to work properly

Composition and GNOME compatibility is enabled in CCSM.

'compositing_manager' box is missing in apps-> metacity -> general in Configuration Editor:
screen shot of configuration window
