cannot switch to cinnamon from ubuntu in chroot. (logout button terminates ubuntu 18.04)

0

so for starters im still quite new, ive got the very basics down with ubuntu

sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt install cinnamon-desktop-environment lightdm

these are the commands that i have used, install seems to have when fine, but my problem now is that i cannot for the life of my find a way to get to the login screen to switch the desktop environment. any help would be incredibly useful at this point as im almost ready to get rid of ubuntu sacrificing all my useability on my acer chromebook 15 cb3-532, please put it into "dumb person" terms as very intricate lines of commands is quite daunting.

what i need. how to logout without terminating ubuntu in crouton,
and or if there is a way to manually switch over from terminal within ubuntu 18.04, or in crouton over in chrome os either or.

another note i start up ubuntu using the command

shell

sudo startunity
