Another “number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length” question

There are a number of questions related to this type of error message with similar replies, nevertheless I remain mystified with respect to my code:
I have set up a 1-column dataframe for writing to an excel worksheet using the XLConnect package writeWorksheet command:

locMid <- data.frame( rbind( paste( UTMzone, hemisphere), round(site.latitude,6), round(site.longitude,6), round(site.elevation,0), length(outliers)), row.names = c("UTM zone","Latitude (°)","Longitude (°)","Elevation (m)","N° Outliers") )
names(locMid) <- "val"
writeWorksheet(wb, data = locMid, sheet = "summary", startRow = 1, startCol = 7, header = FALSE, rownames = row.names(locMid))

generates the warning

Warning message: In names(res)[1] <- colname : number of items to
replace is not a multiple of replacement length

Here is an example of locMid:

locMid

             val

UTM zone 19 S

Latitude (°) -32.87772

Longitude (°) -70.6293

Elevation (m) 821

N° Outliers 0

dim(locMid)

[1] 5 1

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance
